Autism East Midlands has been recognised with a special award for its approach to excellence in inclusion. It was one of only three organisations selected for accolades during a glitzy Celebration of Culture and Communities event organised by East Midlands Chamber of Commerce at Leicester Tigers’ Mattioli Woods Stadium last week.
More than 350 people attended the event that celebrated diversity and inclusion and the work being carried out across the region to promote different communities. The Excellence in Inclusion award was officially presented to Ann Stewart, Headteacher at Sutherland House School, who collected it on behalf of Autism East Midlands. Other awards were given to Cosy Foundation for Excellence in Equality, and Leicester’s De Montfort University for Excellence in Diversity.
During the celebratory event guests enjoyed an Indian-inspired meal and were entertained with music from a choir from the Embark Federation. There were also Bollywood and Bhangra style dance performances from Nupur Arts, a Leicester-based dance group whose members featured in Marvel Studios’ Eternals movie.
