Respite service to open in Worksop

A new centre offering respite services for autistic adults is set to open in Worksop this summer.
The £1million development on Sparken Hill has been created by Autism East Midlands specifically to provide short-term accommodation. The service will run year-round to provide autistic individuals with specialist support, while providing their families and carers with a break.
The centre – known as Whitegates – will enable families from Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and Derbyshire the opportunity to book respite care. The respite service can be booked for weeks, weekends or for just one day.
The building has been carefully transformed to create six self-contained apartments, where specialist autism-focused and one-to-one support will be provided. The service will cater for each individuals needs in a person-centred way with specialist autism-focused and one-to-one support provided by a team of 20.
Activities
Each apartment will have its own lounge area, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. While staying there, individuals will also have access to a shared outdoor gym and to the extensive grounds that surround the house.
Set within a quiet and peaceful location, Whitegates is screened by mature trees and has the benefit of spacious grounds. It’s also within walking distance of Worksop town centre and a five-minute drive from the National Trust’s Clumber Park. Just a short walk away is The Dukeries Centre, an autism specific day service which is also run by Autism East Midlands. The Dukeries offers structured activities based on individual requirements and interests as well as community-based activities.
