Introduction to autism session planned to help parents

Advice and guidance for parents and carers of autistic children will be provided during a special online advice session later this month.
The Introduction to Autism session will be hosted by the Autism East Midlands Family Support Hub, giving parents the chance to learn about autism. It will take place online via Zoom on Wednesday 25 May between 7pm-8.30pm.
The Hub provides regular meeting points, where parents and carers can gain support and specialist information and advice. They can meet others in similar situations, whilst children under the age of 11 are entertained with various activities. The online session, however, give families the chance to learn more about autism from the comfort of their own home.
All places need to be booked in advance as Zoom codes will be sent out to attendees before the session. To find out more and to book, email Hub Co-ordinator at Lesley.lock@aem.org.uk .
Education support services
Autism East Midlands will also support another online session in June. The Accessing Public Services Toolkit workshop is hosted by the charity Cerebra and will take place on 22 June between 10am and 12.30pm. The aim of the workshop is to support families who are having difficulties accessing health, social care and education support services.
It will provide advice about strategies that parents can use to get the services that they need for their child and family. Parents interested in attending should contact Linsey Atkins at linsey.atkins@aem.org.uk by 15 June. To book parents will need to supply their name, address, telephone number and their agreement for their contact details to be passed on to Cerebra for this workshop.
