Learning outside the classroom

Learning isn't just confined to the classroom at Nottingham's Sutherland House School. Regular volunteer work and work experience placements are all part and parcel of what the school has to offer its students.
It's thanks to the support of organisations such as the Mind charity, Ruffles Doggy Day Care, and Nottingham's Stonebridge City Farm that students are able to gain valuable work experience and contribute to the community.
Previous placements have included the chance to gain valuable experience in wide ranging sectors from retail and an office environment to an equestrian centre and horticultural setting.
Farheen Khan, careers leader at the school, said: "Watching young people develop their skills and grow in confidence is a joy. These placements are life changing."
She is now inviting employers and organisations in or around Nottingham, who can offer opportunities for work experience or volunteering to students to get in touch.
- Students are always accompanied by staff to support any placement that is being offered. Please email farheen.khan@aem.org.uk to discuss further.
