Sherwood Centre gym gets makeover from donations

Our Sherwood Centre have recently given their gym a makeover, thanks to some generously donated equipment from Support Worker Emily Reeve and parents of service user Ben Vickers.

Sherwood Centre is one of four flexible day services run by Autism East Midlands, based in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Other day services include the Dukeries and Hamilton in Nottinghamshire and Mundy Street in Derbyshire.

Emily, who works at the Sherwood Centre, donated the gym equipment to assist service users with achieving their outcomes related to health, physical activity and wellbeing.

Our day services have tailoured development plans for each service user, and allows them the chance to work on their own personal outcomes.

But as our staff were starting to fill the new gym with quality equipment, the generous parents of one particular service user jumped at the chance to help.

Parents of service user Ben Vickers (pictured right) donated funds to the Sherwood Centre which allowed them to buy additional weights for the gym, as well as provide protective flooring for the space.

These weights have already been enjoyed by Ben and other service users, and better allow the service users to enjoy the benefits of the gym area while other equipment is occupied.

Pictured below, the now fully furnished gym contains an exercise bicycle, a weight bench, a treadmill and a foldable exercise bench, as well as a variety of different weights.

We're thrilled to see so many of our service users working hard towards their outcomes and making positive contributions towards their own health and wellbeing by taking advantage of the exercise equipment on offer.

We're especially thankful to Emily, and to Ben's parents, for their generosity and unwavering support for our cause.

Over 25?

If you or somebody you know is over 25 and shows signs of autism, the next step is to book an appointment with your GP. Make sure your diagnosis is the only thing you are seeing your GP about. If you try to mention it during a consultation about another subject, your GP may not address it fully.
